Veridian Destroyer Dawn (original design) from Joseph Micael Linsner's Dawn
Cost: $150?
Time: around 40 hours?
Debuted At: Dragon*con 2006
Why I Made this Costume: I've always loved Linsner's artwork, and it has served as an inspiration for my own art.
Dawn is a great character, and I hoped to capture her essence through a design of my own.
How I Made this Costume: This costume was made completely without a pattern...I don't even remember how I made this beast. I just
kind of drew everything on my fabric and cut it out, haha. The sheer fabric that flows from my waist to my hands is covered in hand-painted silver skulls. The metal boobie covers are cut out of aluminum with the edges sanded down. A clear strap goes around it,
so it basically works as a strapless bra. My father made the grieves for me, as per my design.
My Thoughts on this Costume: This costume was...the most uncomfortable costume I have ever worn in my life. Seriously. My feet were numb after I took the boots off...
tingling and numb. I also wussed out on stage during the Dawn Look-a-Like Contest and was up there for only like, 10 seconds...but I'm a bit better in regards to that now. ALL those problems aside,
I was really happy with how the costume turned out, visually. It was also invigorating to work on my own design. This is also one of the most challenging costumes I have ever made, and that made me even more
proud of it.
